Teachers Day '08

This may seems to be highly packed with lots of celebration and holiday (good news), but also packed up with lots of term papers and assignments to 'certain people' (say no more).

16th May is big, especially to the educationists. These professionals work their all to shape a reliable and trustworthy generation of the future; the future doctor, the future manager, the future engineer, and even the future prime minister.

This post is dedicated to all educationist.

-Salute-

“I am bourgeois to the core and parochial beyond belief, and yet I am drawn to art and scholarship as my anti-type, my shadow, the voice of distinction I never possessed. I don't think of myself as a teacher so much as an impersonator of profundities, inhabiting the wisdom of texts with the naked confidence that the value of the genius I espouse transcends the particular fraud that I am the one espousing it. And it doesn't even matter to me that no one seems to be listening; those who listen that I don't know about are enough to keep me going--soaring on the wings of borrowed metaphors.” - Robert Inchausti

What Makes a Mom so special?

(for the best listening experience, let the music fully buffered first)

[Mother]

Blessed is your face
Blessed is your name
My beloved
Blessed is your smile
Which makes my soul want to fly
My beloved
All the nights
And all the times
That you cared for me
But I never realised it
And now it’s too late
Forgive me

Now I’m alone filled with so much shame
For all the years I caused you pain
If only I could sleep in your arms again
Mother I’m lost without you

You were the sun that brightened my day
Now who’s going to wipe my tears away
If only I knew what I know today
Mother I’m lost without you

Ummahu, ummahu, ya ummi
wa shawqahu ila luqyaki ya ummi
Ummuka, ummuka, ummuka ummuka
Qawlu rasulika
Fi qalbi, fi hulumi
Anti ma’i ya ummi
(Mother... Mother... O my mother
How I long to see O mother
“Your mother, Your mother, Your mother”
Is the saying of your Prophet
In my heart, in my dreams
You are always with me mother)

Ruhti wa taraktini
Ya nura ‘aynayya
Ya unsa layli
Ruhti wa taraktini
Man siwaki yahdhununi
Man siwaki yasturuni
Man siwaki yahrusuni
‘Afwaki ummi
Samihini...
(You went and left me
O light of my eyes
O comfort of my nights
You went and left me
Who, other than you, will embrace me?
Who, other than you, will cover me?
Who, other than you, will guard over me?
Your pardon mother, forgive me)

(Song by Sami Yusuf, Album My Ummah)

No Title...

I don't feel like writing tonight. Still got that two term papers to be handed over within two weeks time, so that wore me out already...oh well. I think I'll let the pictures do the talking.
These are what I can see from my study desk....

DSC_1517That not so friendly, demonic looking device is a sandwich maker. Yep, the one that serves you well in the morning for a quick breakfast. The look sorts of asking, "Mau makan, or mau kena makan???? Huh? What? Mau kena makan????"

DSC_1521Ayie brought his D40 tonight. So I made it mine...for around 20 minutes, enough for me to fool around, stalking, snapping, do stuffs...

That's the mini optical Mouse I use for my laptop. We also have laser mouse these days. Much better in term of reliability and performance. Usually, I just use the touch pad and hotkeys...

These are the scene I see every nights....

The view is much better during the dawn. Another reason for me to wake up early in the morning :)

Just to make things a bit dramatic...

Amateurish, I know...the second picture, I was about to try 'Bokeh' technique. But got no subject.....

The others are just plain light trail technique, with photographer in motion, not the subject.

Superb pictures here.

Earth Day 2008

Find more photos like this on Earth Day

22nd April is the Earth Day
Together, we can make a difference.

For instance, there are things we can apply on everyday life, like minimize the usage of electricity consumption in the house, or simply spread the ideas of saving the earth.

One person, might do nothing significant. But bear in mind, every single difference we made, makes the differences.

Brain Size Makes Differences?

Yesterday's Yahoo! News headline in a very interesting one. Excerption from the articles, 'Are Big Brain Smarter?';

One thing scientists do agree on: A big brain alone doesn't equate with smarts. If it did, elephants and sperm whales would win all the spelling bees. Rather, scientists look at the brain mass relative to body mass in order to make any speculation about a creature's cognitive abilities.

ama_brain_stroke_lev20_thebraineffectsstroke_01 Brain, of all organ, is one with many mysterious function and capabilities. But it is agreed that brain is the centre of intelligence. In the realm of Psychology, Cordelia Fine, the writer of 'The Mind of It's Own' pointed out that every noticeable behavioural changes in human can be detected by changes in polarity and charges on certain area of the brain (whatever that means), which might be resulted by physical damages like car accidents, something like that. Well, quite an explanation of the many cases of people lost their memories after a nice, hard hit on their head.

Brain capacity and capability can be expanded and developed. The rule is simple; use it. People may have this kind of thinking that it is no good to think too much over something; at a point it is a strength, but most of the time it is unnecessary, beside making you looks like a nerdy. But is it?
evo_x Learning how to think efficiently is like learning how to drive. It requires efforts before we can use it without we even knowing it. Our mind is subdivided into two; conscious mind and subconscious mind. But to gain control by the subconscious mind, everything needs to go through the control of conscious mind. During the first several times behind the wheel, we'll need to put some of our focus on the steering, the brake, clutch, gear and at the same time coordinating with the situation of the road. This is the point where our conscious in control. But when we passed this period, we drive swiftly without really putting effort to adjust the timing and balancing between the clutch and accelerator when we are to enter gear two. Now this is the point where our subconscious mind is taking it's toll. Substituting driving with thinking, that's how it works.

no-brainPeople who like animation series of Simpsons knows the exaggerated examples of people using their minds at the minimal, but it definitely got nothing to do with the size of the brain. So don't be deceived by the pictures, because it don't even take a Bart Simpson (or maybe even Homer Simpson) to understand that.
